Renee

2023 - 2024 President's Message

Renee Broadbent

Welcome to a new year for the HIMSS New England Chapter! I feel so grateful to be elected to serve as your President for this coming year!  We have an amazing executive board, including Paulo Farqui (President Elect), Katie Bethel (Past President), Liza Cameron (Treasurer), Liddy Bileck (Secretary), and Bruno Nardone and Mary Griskewicz (Members-at-Large), back for another term! This past year under Katie’s leadership, we were able to hold many wonderful in-person events that were well attended, proof that people are anxious to get back together! NE HIMSS is fortunate to have so many wonderful sponsors, who not only support us, but also provide educational and informative webinars on a monthly basis.  We also held our very popular Clinical Informatics series, offering CEs for those who attended live as well as the recorded series after. Lastly, we had our very first in-person After Dark event. We are already busy planning for an event filled year, focusing on in-person events and ensuring we are inclusive of all our New England states!

This year will start like last year, with our August Kickoff event in beautiful Newport, RI. This will be an in-person event at the Viking Hotel rooftop! Why mess with success?!  This event has our volunteers, members, non-members, and sponsors meet the board and network with colleagues while enjoying the beautiful views of Newport Harbor.   Our planning has started in earnest for this year with many events already in process including a Cybersecurity Event in September, our October Digital Health Event, an Advocacy Event in November and of course our ever-popular Holiday Social at the Boston Winery, and that’s just the first half of the year; many others are in the planning stages as well, including our Annual Spring Conference, moving back to May this year. Our goal this year is to get as many events planned as possible to drive attendance and to provide as much exposure to our very supportive sponsors. Also, we are applying again and hoping to win the Gold Level Chapter Status and the Chapter Advocacy Award for 2023-2024, both awarded by HIMSS. Our NE HIMSS website will also be undergoing a complete overhaul sometime in the fall, and we will make sure to keep you all updated on that, because the look and feel may change. Lots going on!!!

The HIMSS New England chapter is fortunate to have so many good sponsors and regular inquiries from other organizations looking to sponsor NE HIMSS. When we chat with other HIMSS organizations, we realize how incredible it is to have the vast array of industries supporting us. For that I am so grateful and would like to again give a big THANK YOU to all our sponsors.

Finally, and most importantly are all of YOU.  Volunteers are the heart of what we do and there is no way we could be as successful a chapter as we are without all of you. I am beyond grateful to help lead this organization and this amazing group of people. You are all so wonderful and make this job so much easier!

My door is always open, digitally or otherwise! I am open to feedback on opportunities for improvements around events, membership, and communication. I look forward to leading you through this year.

Sincerely,

Renee E. Broadbent, MBA, CCSFP

President, HIMSS New England
