Healthcare as Collaboration: Using Participatory Medicine to Cure What Ails Healthcare

Patient engagement is said to be the blockbuster drug of the century,

but what can you do to help make it happen?

Two of its best-known practitioners - Dr. Danny Sands and his patient, cancer survivor "e-Patient Dave" deBronkart - will show, through role-play and lectures, how participatory medicine actually played out during Dave's near-death cancer case, and what they've both learned since about its principles and practice.

Daniel Z. Sands, MD, MPH

Society for Participatory Medicine - Co-Founder and Board Chair; - Principal

"e-Patient Dave" deBronkart
Society for Participatory Medicine - Co-Founder and Chair Emeritus

During this session we will:

  • Define participatory medicine and the changing roles of patients and providers
  • Offer tips for making a successful participatory experience for the patient and physician
  • Explore how information asymmetry applies to the changing relationship, and why transparency - of information, cost and quality - is essential to partnership
  • Highlight what tools are available to enable participatory medicine
  • Review ho you can answer the call to action to advance participatory medicine
